Setting up Outlook Express

When you use your web-based Schoolgrid Email account, you access your email via the browser and the mail remains on the central server.

If you wish to have your email stored on your own computer so you can read and write emails when offline (you may use a laptop for example), you can use email client software such as Outlook Express on your PC or Mac.

Here are the instructions for setting up Outlook Express on a PC:
  1. Open Outlook Express

  2. Click on Tools from the main menu and then click on Account from the sub-menu.

  3. Click on the Add button then click on Mail.

  4. Enter your name in the Display name box.

5. Enter your email address in the Email address box.
6. In the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server box, enter: pop3.yourdomain, e.g: pop3.schoolname.lea.sch.uk

7. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server box enter the SMTP address for your ISP. If you are using Azzurri as your ISP you are able to use your domain name - e.g. smtp.school.lea.sch.uk.
8. Enter your email address in the Account name box and your password in the Password box.

9. Click on the Finish button, if you don’t use the web based interface for your email please go to Step 12
10. Now click on pop3.yourdomain, e.g: pop3.schoolname.lea.sch.uk from the list and then click on the Properties button.
11. Click on the Advanced tab and make the following selections from the Delivery section:

12. Check the Leave copy of messages on server box if you wish to continue to access all your email using a browser from any Internet connected computer.

13. Check the box Remove from server after... days. If you wish you can change from the default of 5 days to up to 30 days. Please note that after 30 days, email may be removed from your mailbox.

14. Check the box Remove from server when deleted from deleted items.

Please note that if your mailbox exceeds 10 MB in size, you will be automatically sent an email advising you to delete excess email. By choosing the settings above, you will reduce the chance of receiving this message.
15. Now click on the OK then the Close button and that's it, Outlook Express is correctly configured
